A Haven of History and Beauty

Ballyteige Lodge stands in a beautiful natural setting in the secluded valley of the River Ow (Old Gaelic for Water). The house when built in 1880 was one of only four houses in Co.Wicklow to have the new electricity This was made possible by an early Hydro Electric Scheme in the upper river system above the house , the local community would walk up to the house to Veiw the glowing light in the darkness .

The house also has a rich historical association with the formation of the Irish free state in the early 20th century, attracting many significant figures in Irish political history as a prominent treaty house.

Building on a long-established tradition of over 140 years of hospitality. We offer fine dining and comfortable country accommodation, a very personal service in our family home and a unique setting for weddings, family celebrations and corporate events.

The Old Tennis Lawn

The old tennis lawn below the house (scene of a civil war skirmish) is dominated by very fine and ancient trees with Copper Beeches, Monkey Puzzles, Eucalyptus trees, surrounded by a rare species of early Rhododendrons and Azaleas planted circa 1890.

Beyond the donkey paddock is an enchanting natural pond edged with weeping willows, giant Gunnera, surrounded by Ponticums and teeming with wildlife.

The Stables at Ballyteige Lodge

Newly restored to a very high standard creating a large indoor space with a magnificent fireplace with all facilities. Suitable for weddings, live music, storytelling, craft workshops, corporate functions and private hire.

The Flower Garden

The Flower Garden

140 years of garden history, extensive herbaceous borders, magnificent rose garden surrounded by mature beech hedging and set in lawns surrounding the house.

The River Garden

The River Garden is accessed by crossing a suspension bridge over the River Ow or an alternative route using the stepping stones (but only for the brave). The path through the forest leads to a spectacular cascade waterfall with a Japanese bridge over the falls. The various walks lead to the Himalayan Gardens with ancient ferns and mosses variously encrusted on the cliff face with a large natural cave all enveloped in a unique temperate rainforest.

Dining Experience

Dining at Ballytiege Lodge

Our menu is chosen and freshly cooked every day using local organic fruit and vegetables from local Wicklow growers, we also use our own produce from our garden and forage food from our land. Our meat is free range and grass fed from herds in Wicklow and our seafood is from sustainable sources (such as organic salmon). Vegetarian and vegan options available with prior consultation.
